SOMATIC creative COACHING

for writers, artists, and the open-hearted — Together, let’s clarify and take action towards your desires and goals, welcome greater authenticity, learn how to move with rather than against blocks that inevitably arise, and expand capacity for experiencing aliveness and success. I support folks who are ready to take the next step towards change in their lives, and recognize that internal and external changes go hand in hand. My clients and I believe that our bodies and minds hold the wisdom, resources and information we need to thrive. Through somatic coaching, I offer gentle but impactful, client-centered support in embracing and navigating change and expansion.

How can somatic coaching support you?

  • ACTION ORIENTED: Clients come to coaching because they are ready for a change in their lives, their creative practices, their careers, or their relationships to self or others. Mind-body coaching focuses both on inner awareness and outward manifestation of change. We’ll create and follow clear action plans.

  • LIGHT WORK: Together, we’ll clarify your purpose and goal(s), and then use a range of coaching strategies to move towards them. We’ll welcome and process the feelings and experiences that transformation inevitably brings.

  • SHADOW WORK: Blocks and resistance give us powerful insights to work with rather than against. The somatic practices I guide you through help you access and follow your innate wisdom and transform your conditioned responses, supporting all parts of you as align your actions to your values. This process is about integration and developing your own inner resources as you begin to move differently in the outer world.

I use a range of tools to support you, informed by my unique blend of experiences including:

  • my own life-long creative practice,

  • certified mind-body coach,

  • certified yoga teacher, with 20+ years of meditation and yoga practice,

  • 20+ year of facilitating, editing, and trauma-informed teaching, including working with survivors of sexual violence & with war veterans,

  • a decade of instructional coaching in a NYC public school, with an emphasis on adult learning and culturally responsive pedagogy,

  • and nearly a lifetime of reading tarot through an archetypal lens, a tool I sometimes incorporate when working with clients on purpose and creative identity

Testimonials

“Emily is one of the most intuitive and thoughtful people I know. She seamlessly blends traditions and ideas, engaging in a practice that is research-based, meditative, and spiritual. Using physical movement as a metaphor and the body as a conduit, our sessions together have helped me clarify my career path.”

— poet

“I hit something like a crisis in my early fifties. I started craving a stronger sense of purpose, but to achieve that stronger sense of purpose I needed to address some larger questions about my identity as a writer and as a person. I felt stuck without knowing I felt stuck, and Emily paid attention to this. In our sessions, Emily used movement and visualization techniques to help me understand some of the secrets my body has been trying to tell me about myself. She centered my body and my words in our sessions, probing both with unusual patience and precision to help me recognize much larger truths about who I am and the work I’m trying to do. When we closed, I felt I had uncovered nuggets of something real and important that I could bring with me to my work, connecting my work to who I am in this world. I felt I could approach daunting but revealing professional tasks with a renewed rigor and honesty. More than anything, I felt ready and excited to move with intention into this next phase of my life as an artist.”

"For most of my time as a poet, my practice has been mired in incomplete projects and concepts -- flurries of sparks that couldn't produce a flame. Working with Emily to create personal goals, and experiencing her methodology for unravelling the creative knots that often get stuck in the psyche, have not only been fruitful for my writing but have been more therapeutic than I could have ever anticipated. Instead of approaching (or often avoiding) my writing poetry as an ineffable, insurmountable obstacle of self-expression, Emily has helped me develop the tools and the confidence to take smaller, more meditative steps so that I'm able to actually maintain a daily practice. She is remarkably thoughtful and insightful -- a wonderful person to help coach you through your creative journey."

“My sessions with Emily were wonderful! She is extremely insightful, calm and takes the time to really understand where you are coming from, where you are and where you would like to be. I really appreciate that she doesn’t tell me what to do but she helps me to discover it by asking the right questions. I always finish our time together with a sense of peace and a smile on my face, she’s very funny btw!”
